From Scattered Voices to Resistance

Clear organisation and a broad coalition turn discontent into unified resistance.

From Scattered Voices to Resistance
The Challenge

As part of the canton's planning for new landfill sites, one location was earmarked in close proximity to residential areas – right in the middle of a popular local recreation area and within the source catchment of a protected stream. The looming loss of quality of life and nature, together with the threat to drinking water supplies, called for a swift, broadly supported and effective response from the affected population.

Opportunity in Action

Under the shared banner of IG DepoNIE-Zollikon.ch, initially scattered public discontent was deliberately channelled into a unified effort. Rather than many isolated, ineffective voices, a broad coalition emerged – bringing together political parties from across the spectrum, neighbourhood and conservation associations, local farmers, and other community organisations under one clear, shared position.

Through targeted communication and low-barrier participation tools – including a template generator for personal objections to the cantonal authority – concern was converted into coordinated action. A petition with thousands of signatures and several hundred formal objections demonstrate the scale of mobilisation and give the cause real political weight.

Clear organisation under one shared roof makes it possible to speak with a single voice without losing the diversity of the groups involved – turning local resistance into a force the canton can no longer ignore.
